Sir,–Will “Dunvegan” please give his name and address, estate where he learned the science of music? Did he ever hear John Ban or Mackay play? What does he object to in this edition of the Society’s book?
With regard to “Young Piper’s” letter, I am strongly of opinion that the advertisement of the Piobaireachd Society did not say that “The King’s Taxes” was in their books, because it is not.
A setting of the tune is to be found in David Glen’s collection, and the competitor must play it with its errors of pitch, duration and accent as it stands. It must be understood that the prize is not given for the best rendering of the tune, but for the best playing of it, as authorised by the Society–let that be good, bad or indifferent.–I am, etc.,
