The Piobaireachd Society’s Music
5 June, 1920
Sir,–In your issue 29th May, “Ceol Mor” stated that on perusal he finds “The King’s Taxes” in Glen’s book perfect in every respect, and no doubt he states what he believes to be correct, but others think differently. Musicians inform me that anything which does not appeal to the ear is outside the pale of music.
That “the prize is not given for the best rendering of the tune” is not a statement of mine, but an unrepealed decision of the Piobaireachd Society, and I mentioned it to “Young Piper” to prevent him from playing what he might believe to be a better setting.–I am, etc.
