Piobaireachd Wanted

13th August, 1923

Sir,–Could you inform me through the “Oban Times” where I could find copies of the following piobaireachds or what collection of pipe music are the published in–”Lament for Corrynessan,” “Ian Dubh McCrummin,” (writing if possible), also “MacLeod of Raasay’s Gathering” and “MacNabs’ Gathering.” I can find the Salutes in Angus MacKay’s Collection of Ceol Mhor. The Gatherings are two beautiful pieces, and should be brought to the fore as test pieces for Cowal Highland Gathering next year. Another of the ancient piobaireachds which is very seldom heard is “The Red-Tartaned Army,” better known as “An-T-arm breac-dearg,” which can be found in Ceol Mhor, only the meter instead of 5. 5. 4. should read 6. 6. 4. Perhaps some of our piobaireachd players can supply the information required. –I am, etc.,

Tom-A-Phiobair
