The Piobaireachd Society’s Music

3 May, 1920

Sir,–”Loch Sloy” attempt to turn my question to Mr. MacLennan into an “attack against one who expressed his complete satisfaction with the tunes passed through by the Music Committee for this year’s competition.” Why should your correspondent agree with the criticism as being in order when he admits that he has not seen the music. I hold that the music issued by the Music Committee is not piobaireachd as it was known to the MacCrimmons, Angus Mackay, John Ban Mackenzie, or Donald MacDonald.

Let “Loch Sloy” or Mr. MacLennan tell me of another volume in which there appears such piobaireachd as that issued by the Music Committee.

I have made no attack on the Piobaireachd Society; but I say it is a great pity that the Society’s name is associated with such music.–I am, etc.,
