[The Piobaireachd Society’s Music]

15 May, 1920

Sir,–in reply to your correspondence Mr. MacLennan, I here produce what the advertisement referred to did say:–

“Junior competition, 1920.–Competitors in the Junior Competition will be required to submit a list of four tunes selected from the following:–

The King’s Taxes
My King has Landed in Moidart
I got a kiss of the King’s hand
The Clan Ranald’s Gathering
Mary’s Praise
MacLeod of Raasay’s Salute

The following settings of the above tunes are published:–

Ceol Mor–Contains all.
A. Mackay–Nos. 2, 3, 6.
D. Glen–Nos. 2, 3, 5, 6.
D. MacPhee–Nos. 2, 4, 5, 6.
Piobaireachd Society–Nos. 1, 2, 4.

It is the Secretary of the Music Committee (Mr. J. P. Grant, 67 Great King Street, Edinburgh) who has to explain matters.

As a new and unwarrantable style of piobaireachd has appeared this year, I do not regret securing the five books in question, which contain piobaireachd proper–what was and is known as ancient piobaireachd. I shall cherish them as a memorial of their editors and publishers.–I am, etc.,

Young Piper
