Piobaireachd & MacCrimmon Canntaireachd

2 October, 1915

Sir,–I am very much interested in piobaireachd, and I hope you will grant me a very small space in your valuable columns to ask one question: Is there anyone alive who knows anything about the real MacCrimmon notation? In one of your issues in July last, which has just been handed to me, I notice a paragraph from a correspondent, “Eilean a Cheo,” who says that Mr. Iain P. Grant of Rothiemurchus can speak, read, write and play the notation.

I wonder if “Eilean a Cheo,” Mr. Grant of Rothiemurchus, or any of your correspondents could tell me, through your columns, if they or anyone knows the notation, if they are authorities on piobaireachd, or if they possess the key to the MacCrimmon canntaireachd or real verbal notation?

Mr. J. S. Campbell of Islay wrote a small book on this notation. Is it possible to get a copy of it? I would be obliged if any of your correspondents could tell me where to get it or any printed book of canntaireachd.–I am, etc.

Patrick Og
